WENDY
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English
In the case of the character from J. M. Barrie''s play ''Peter Pan'' (1904), it was created from the nickname wendy "friend", given to the author by a young friend. However, the name was used prior to the play (rarely), in which case it could be related to the Welsh name GWENDOLEN and other names beginning with the element gwen meaning "white, fair, blessed".
Wendy is a given name generally given to females in English-speaking countries.
The name is found in United States records from the 1800s; Wendy Gram, a female resident of Ohio, was born in 1828, and the name Wendy appeared over twenty times in the U.S. Census of 1880. In Britain, Wendy appeared as a boy''s name in the 1881 census of England, and was occasionally used as a nickname for the Welsh Gwendolyn. However, its popularity as a girl''s name is attributed to the character Wendy Darling from the play and novel Peter and Wendy by J. M. Barrie. The name was inspired by young Margaret Henley, daughter of Barrie''s friend W. E. Henley. With the common childhood difficulty pronouncing Rs, Margaret reportedly used to call him ''my fwiendy-wendy''.
The name Wendy is sometimes considered a variation of the name Wanda.
Various Chinese rulers have held the name and title Emperor Wen, which in Chinese is read Wen. Chinese women with the same or similar-sounding characters as their given names often Anglicise their names as Wendi or Wendy (e.g. Wendi Deng, Wendy Kweh).
harrison
A surname.
This distinguished surname, with thirty entries in the "Dictionary of National Biography", and having no less than forty Coats of Arms, is of early medieval English origin. It is a patronymic form of the medieval male given name Harry, itself a pet form of Henry, from the Old French "Henri", via the Old German "Haimric", composed of the elements haim", home, and "ric", power. Introduced into England by the Normans after the Conquest of 1066 in the form "Henri", the name became enormously popular and was borne by eight kings of England. It appears as "Henricus" in the Domesday Book of 1086, and subsequently generated a great variety of diminutive and pet forms including Herry, Harry, Hann, Hal and Hankin. Early examples of the surname recording include: John Harryson in the records of the city of Sheffield, Yorkshire, dated in 1445, whilst a large and influential American family of the name are descended from Benjamin Harrison, who emigrated from England to Virginia in 1633 - 1634.

newcastle upon tyne
Newcastle upon Tyne is a city and metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear, in North East England. Situated on the north bank of the River Tyne, the city developed in the area that was the location of the Roman settlement called Pons Aelius, though it owes its name to the castle built in 1080, by Robert II, Duke of Normandy, the eldest son of William the Conqueror. The city grew as an important centre for the wool trade and it later became a major coal mining area. The port developed in the 16th century and, along with the shipyards lower down the river, was amongst the world''s largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres. These industries have since experienced severe decline and closure, and the city today is largely a business and cultural centre, with a particular reputation for nightlife.
Like most cities, Newcastle has a diverse cross section, from areas of poverty to areas of affluence. Among its main icons are Newcastle Brown Ale, a leading brand of beer, Newcastle United F.C., a Premier League team, and the Tyne Bridge. It has hosted the world''s most popular half marathon, the Great North Run, since it began in 1981.
