These are confused, and like the personal name and subsequent surname Jacob, it has its origins in the Hebrew given name "Yaakov". Gateshead is a town in Tyne and Wear, England and is the main settlement in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. It lies on the southern bank of the River Tyne opposite Newcastle upon Tyne and together they form the urban core of Tyneside. Gateshead town centre and Newcastle City Centre are joined by seven different bridges across the Tyne, including the landmark Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The town is becoming increasingly well known for several examples of iconic architecture such as The Sage Gateshead, the Angel of the North and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Gateshead is set to host BBC Radio 3''s Free Thinking festival.

Gateshead experiences a temperate climate which is considerably warmer than some other locations at similar latitudes as a result of the warming influence of the Gulf Stream . It is located in the rain shadow of the North Pennines and is therefore in one of the driest regions of the United Kingdom.
