memorials

memorial is an object which serves as a focus for memory of something, usually a person (who has died) or an event. Popular forms of memorials include landmark objects or art objects such as sculptures, statues or fountains (and even entire parks).

The most common type of memorial is the gravestone or the memorial plaque . Also common are war memorials commemorating those who have died in wars. Memorials in the form of a cross are called intending crosses.

Recorded as Sunderland, and sometimes Sincerland, this is an English medieval surname. It originates either from the prominent town of Sunderland in County Durham, or from lost villages and localities called Sunderland in the counties of Cumberland, Lancashire and Northumberland. Sunderland in Durham is first recorded as Suthlanda in the year 1177. It translates as the "south land", and refers to agricultural lands to the south of the main farm or settlement.
