In Semitic, the letter was probably originally a pictogram for an arm with hand, derived from a similar hieroglyph that represented a voiced pharyngeal fricative in Egyptian, but was reassigned to /j/ by Semites, because their word for "arm" began with that sound. Bishop Auckland is a market town and civil parish in County Durham in North East England. It is located about 12 miles northwest of Darlington and 12 miles southwest of Durham at the confluence of the River Wear with its tributary the River Gaunless.
