Wardley is one of twenty two electoral wards located within the metropolitan borough of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, in the north-east of England. It lies within the historic county boudaries of County Durham.

Wardley is a village and civil parish in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. It is located about two miles (3 km) west of Uppingham, close to the A47. The two-mile £1.9 million Wardley Hill Improvement opened in October 1987 when the road through the village became a dead end. The parish church is dedicated to St Botolph.
The village has no mains water supply, instead water is supplied from a borehole.
Wardley Wood, owned by the Forestry Commission, is an ancient woodland on a hillside.

Wardley is a district of Swinton near Manchester. It borders the Walkden and Swinton areas.
Until fairly recently Wardley had three public houses, the Morning Star, the Red Lion and the Brook Tavern, but the last has now closed down. The Brook Tavern, as its name implies, stands on (the Wardley side) Sindsley Brook, the historic boundary between Swinton and Worsley. The thriving Morning Star pub is run by the Manchester area''s Joseph Holt''s Brewery.

Gateshead is a town in Tyne and Wear, England and is the main settlement in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. It lies on the southern bank of the River Tyne opposite Newcastle upon Tyne and together they form the urban core of Tyneside. Gateshead town centre and Newcastle City Centre are joined by seven different bridges across the Tyne, including the landmark Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The town is becoming increasingly well known for several examples of iconic architecture such as The Sage Gateshead, the Angel of the North and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Gateshead is set to host BBC Radio 3''s Free Thinking festival.
There has been a settlement on the Gateshead side of the River Tyne, around the old river crossing where the Swing Bridge now stands, since Roman times.

Theories of the derivation of the name ''Gateshead'' include ''head of the road'' or ''goat’s headland'', as the River Tyne at this point was once roamed by goats.

Several major road links pass through Gateshead, including the A1 which links London to Edinburgh and the A184 which connects the town to Sunderland.

The European Parliament constituencies used under that system were smaller than the later regional constituencies and only had one Member of the European Parliament each.

The constituency of Tyne and Wear was one of them.

When it was created in England in 1984, it consisted of the Westminster Parliament constituencies of Gateshead East, Houghton and Washington, Jarrow, Newcastle-upon-Tyne East, South Shields, Sunderland North, Sunderland South, Tyne Bridge, although this may not have been true for the whole of its existence.
